There are different terms in describing the science of interpreting and recording website statistics. The examples are web statistics, web analytics, and site statistics. The E-metrics refers to electronic business analysis.


The “Metrics” in web metrics pertains to measurement, the measuring of websites. It specifically refers to extracting trends and measuring website events. Those events are the clicks made by people visiting the website.


Web Metrics Analytics is the distinguishing of categories of the recorded statistics and analyzing its patterns. The analytics process literally means taking apart from a whole of something so that its component parts can be studied.


Statistics is a scientific application with goals to make actions like website content management based on the recorded data. Statistics is applied to reduce guessing. Simple questions are answered like the number of visitors you have on your website this week and on last week. Is the site worse or better this week?

What do statistics tell you? Statistics tells you about different aspects regarding the traffic on your website, how visitors are surfing using your pages, the number of visitors. Statistics will also tell you about the site’s content and how visitors utilize it. The traffic statistics is the indicator of the performance of your website. So when applied, statistics is effective when it comes to updates.

Comparing Types of Measurements

Comparing various types of measurement is like comparing the difference between oranges and apples. Different programs of statistics website have different ways when it comes to measuring essential variables like visits, unique visitors and page views.

It’s not easy to compare generated results by 2 statistics programs to track a certain site. The process is really useful if you are thinking of result differences and determining what you are measuring. It is encouraged to use a number of programs such as integrating services for tracking with log analysis.

In time, if the measurement method is the same, then the results is perfect for comparison purposes. So selecting the measurement method is important. Scientifically, changing the measurement method while in an experiment makes the process invalid.

Comparing the results of 2 types of measurements lets you identify the number differences. Example: measuring unique visitors vs. page views or specific pages vs. the entire site. If the same statistics are compared over time, then the method of measurement is not changed. In recording statistics, this is the accurate way. This allows you to look for patterns and answers, for example, if traffic is growing or decreasing.
